Subject: Re Testimonial
I first started my coaching sessions with the above named in June 05 after Experiencing great difficulties with my son Rhys, and his behaviour.
Rhys is now 9 years old and he has had a diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder since he was 4 years old. I consider myself to be a Confident parent who is comfortable with the methods I have used over the Years, however since the beginning of this year Rhys' difficulties seemed to Worsen. As a result of this I rang Christine and she told me about the Coaching sessions and how she operated, and I became keen to have her Involved with my family. I have to admit also that the fact that Christine Has two grown up sons who have a diagnosis of ADHD made me all the more Enthusiastic about bringing her on board
We have had about five coaching sessions now and they provide me with the Opportunity to talk in an open, frank and positive way about Rhys and the Difficulties we're having as a family. As an outsider looking in, Christine Is able to advise and make suggestions that might make our situation easier to cope with. What makes a huge difference with having Christine coach me Rather than someone without her life experiences is that she knows exactly Where Fm coming from, having shared similar experiences with her own boys. That factor alone has made all the difference to me, as, over the years I Have consulted with various agencies about Rhys' difficulties and come away Thinking that no matter how explicit I try to be when describing the Difficulties we encounter as a result of Rhys' ADHD, Christine is able to Completely empathise with me in my current situation because she too Understands exactly what it's like to have a member of the family with this Condition. It is sometimes difficult to explain how ADHD impacts on nearly Every aspect of our daily life and Christine understands and takes her role As an advocate very seriously.
Christine is a warm and genuine person, and is what I term a 'people person1.
She has clearly lived with and survived ADHD and has definitely got Experiences and
advice that others can benefit from. Our sessions always
Make me feel that being Rhys' mum is a special gift and that his qualities
(Which are so often viewed in a negative way) do, and will continue to make my lite
richer as a result of him being 'unique'. I now firmly believe that
Without Rhys and his difficulties I would not be the person I am today and
Rhys has made me a better mum than I would have been had he not had ADHD.
It is Christine that has helped me to realise this more and more but to also urge me to give myself a pat on the back for getting this far, because it most certainly not an easy road,
Christine manages to point out the positives about ADHD in a way that makes you focus more on the positives, which is not always that easy to do when you are in the midst of a difficult time. She is able to deliver her opinion in a non judgemental way, which is crucial when you are the parent of a child like Rhys, as a lot of the time you cannot help but think that others judge your parenting skills and apportion 'blame1 for those difficulties.
I am grateful to Christine for all the invaluable and practical advice that she has given me during our sessions and am secure in the knowledge that when 1 (eventually) implement the management strategies fully into my family life, it will be immeasurably better. I am probably the least organised person I know and Christine has been very patient with me, despite me not always acting on her advice when 1 should. She is clearly committed to helping my family overcome some of the difficulties that are very familiar to her and I would definitely recommend her to others, in the knowledge that she would provide sound and valuable guidance.
